College Scholarships

Gesa is no longer accepting scholarship applications for the 2018-2019 school year! Applications were due by February 28, 2018 and winners will be notified on or before May 1, 2018.

Scholarship Overview

Gesa is proud to have offered scholarships to college students for more than two decades. Our scholarships provide educational assistance to both entering freshmen, and current college students continuing their education. Since 1987, Gesa has awarded $340,000 in scholarships to deserving students. Click here to view Gesa’s Scholarship Guide.

Entering College Freshmen

Gesa Credit Union offers ten $2,000 and one $5,000 scholarships to local high school seniors who have plans to pursue a higher degree of education. To be eligible, you must be a member in good standing of Gesa Credit Union and be entering your freshman year of college as a full-time student with a 3.0 or greater cumulative high school GPA.

Current College Students

Gesa also offers Continued Education Scholarships for current college students who have plans to continue their higher education. Gesa will award five $2,000 and one $5,000 scholarships to eligible students. To be eligible, you must be a member in good standing of Gesa Credit Union with plans of returning as a full-time student in the fall of 2018.

Nove​mber 14, 2017 Jack Kent Cook Foundation Scholarship
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities. Selected from a nationwide pool of applicants, up to 40 students will become Jack Kent Cooke Scholars and have access to funding for up to four years for undergraduate studies.Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive.
This highly competitive scholarship includes:
  • Up to $40,000 per year to attend a four-year accredited undergraduate school
  • Ability to pursue any area of study
  • Personal advising about selecting a college and navigating financial aid
  • Multifaceted advising about how to transition to college and maximize the college student experience

November 15, 2017 Sullivan Leadership Award - Seattle University
The Sullivan Leadership Award exemplifies Seattle University's holistic definition of academic excellence, one that transcends classroom performance and seeks students with diverse leadership styles and personal backgrounds. This scholarship covers tuition, room and board for each of four years of undergraduate study at Seattle University and is awarded to nine incoming first-year students each year.  FOR MORE INFO CLICK HERE

November 27, 2017 Tri-Cities Elks Lodge #2755
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is helping local youth with this scholarship opportunity.  There are SIX scholarship available totaling $7,000.  Application must be completed HERE.

November 25, 2017 University of Dayton, Leadership in Service Scholarship
Please see Mr. Jelinek if you are seriously considering attending University of Dayton.  This scholarship is for $10,000 awarded over the 4 years of school, $2500 per year.

The Presidential Scholarships are Montana State University's most distinguished academic awards, recognizing scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership and unique personal qualities. February 1, 2018 American Indian Endowed Scholarship
Applicants must have close social and cultural ties to an American Indian tribe or community in Washington and must demonstrate financial need. Scholarships usually range from $500-$2000 each for the academic year.CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION

February 24, 2018 Washington Masonic Legacy Scholarship
This scholarship is available to current residents of Washington in their senior year who plan to attend a 4 year university, 2 year community college, or a 2 year vocational technical school. February 28, 2018 Leadership 1000 Scholarship
The Leadership 1000 Scholarship provides Washington state students with scholarships for postsecondary education. Applicants are selected on the basis of academic promise, personal drive and significant financial need. Scholarship awards range from $1,500 to $5,000 per academic year. February 28, 2018 Governor's Scholarship for Foster Youth
The Washington State Governors' Scholarship for Foster Youth is a scholarship program that helps young men and women from foster care continue their education and earn a college degree.  The program is supported by Gov. Jay Inslee, The Honorable Chris Gregoire (former governor), The Honorable Gary Locke (former governor), and other former governors in Washington State.
Proceeds from the Governors' Cup – an annual golf tournament – provide funding for approximately 40 - 50 new scholars each year. Scholarship award amounts range from $2,000 to $4,000 depending on the college of attendance.  Selected students can access the annual scholarship for up to five years to complete an undergraduate study.  March 1, 2018 Washington Apple Education Foundation
The Washington Apple Education Foundation will award $1 million in scholarships to students raised in tree fruit industry communities in the spring of 2018.  Recipients of these awards are pursuing two- and four-year college/university degrees and technical degrees at accredited vocational/technical colleges.  Awards are open to graduating seniors and current college students. Students pursuing a two- or four-year degree at a college or university should be complete the WAEF Universal Scholarship Application.  Completing this one form allows you to apply for all WAEF scholarships, except those identified under the WAEF Technical/Vocational Scholarship Application.  WAEF Universal Scholarship Application
The WAEF Technical/Vocational Scholarship Application is for students pursing a technical/vocational certificate or a two-year technical/vocational degree in one of the following fields: auto repair/mechanic, automotive technology, computer application, construction building and trades, diesel mechanic, electrical, electronics, HVAC, industrial systems technology, information technology, instrumentation, logistics control, machine programming, machine technology, mechanized irrigation systems, network administration, project management, refrigeration, welding, or other technical agriculture related.  WAEF Technical/Vocational Scholarship Application

March 1, 2018 Association of Computer Professionals in Education (ACPE)
This year the Association of Computer Professionals in Education (ACPE) has allocated up to $10,000 for scholarships of up to $2,000 each for students in Oregon and Washington. These scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors who have been actively involved in the use of technology during their high school careers and are planning to pursue studies in a technology related field. March 2, 2018 Washington State School Retirees' Association (WSSRA)
The Washington State School Retirees' Association invites senior students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply for the scholarships listed on application form. These scholarships are given to students who wish to have a career in the field of education. CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION

March 10, 2018 Richland Kiwanis Foundation, Scholarship Grant Program
Scholarship grant applications from the 2018 Richland Kiwanis Foundation are for graduating students who have attended an accredited high school in the Richland School District.  Delta High School graduating students who are vouchered from the Richland School District are also eligible to apply.  Eight Kiwanis scholarships of $2,500 each for the 2018-2019 school year will be awarded. March 10, 2018 A1 Auto Transport Scholarship
Three awards worth $1,000, $500, and $250 will be awarded under the A-1 Auto Transport Scholarship every year. The scholarship will be sent directly to the school/university/college’s financial aid office.Any current, full-time, part-time student of an accredited or non-accredited institute, truck driving school or other logistics program, must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to become eligible. There is no requirement of minimum age.

March 11, 2018 Cancer Unwrapped High School Writing Contest
Have you survived cancer? Have you watched a loved one or friend deal with cancer? We want to hear your story! This Cancer Unwrapped High School Writing Contest invites students to submit essays about their experience with cancer for the opportunity to win one of several $1,000 cash prizes. The Tre-Citta (Tri-Cities) Lodge 2881 Scholarship Program has been established to provide financial assistance for the qualified students of Italian ancestry to help them realize their highest potential as citizens and leaders of their community, state and nation. March 15, 2018 HAAP Scholarship
HAAP scholarships are based on Hispanic heritage, financial need, leadership, civic and extra-curricular activities, academic achievement and higher education goals.  All applications are screened and interviews are conducted to select scholarship winners. HAAP takes pride in providing resources for Hispanic youth to pursue a higher education and hope that through their college success, they will encourage other Hispanics to pursue a higher education. March 30, 2018 Tri-City Construstion Counsel Scholarship Program
Student must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited public or private college, university or trade school. $2,000 will be provided to deserving students.The Committee will select scholarship winners based upon the following criteria: Academic achievement, community and school involvement, financial need, leadership potential, relationship of the student’s field of study to the construction industry (not required).  CLICK HERE FOR APPLICATION

Scholarship amount varies depending on need and on how many students apply. To be considered for this scholarship, criteria

April 1, 2018 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest and Eastern District of Washington contest
The focus for this year's contest's is, "150 Years after Ratification of the 14th Amendment:  What Does Equal Rights Protection Mean to Students?"

For the Eastern District of Washington's Contest, essay and video submissions are encouraged from high school students residing in the following counties:  Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, and Yakima.  The top three submissions in the essay and video competitions at the district level will be offered for consideration in the overall Ninth Circuit contest and will compete against submissions from high school students from within the geographic boundaries of the Ninth Circuit (the western United States and Pacific Isalnds). Prizes for the Ninth Circuit contest are as follows:  First Place: $2,000 Second Place: $1,000 Third Place: $500

April 1, 2018 WIAA Smart Choices Scholarship Program
The WIAA, Dairy Farmers of Washington, and Les Schwab Tires are pleased to announce the sixth annual Smart Choices College Scholarship which will recognize one female and one male high school student for their achievements in athletics/activities, the community, and the classroom with a $5,000 college scholarship to the college or university of their choice.  In addition to the two $5,000 scholarship winners, eight finalists will receive $1,000 scholarships. April 9th, 2018 Tri-Cities Football Officials Association Scholarship
As we do each year, the football officials who are members of the Tri‑Cities Sports Officials Association want to invite interested graduating football players from the schools we service to apply for our annual scholarship opportunity.   We are looking for graduating seniors who will be attending a college or trade school next year and would be interested in receiving scholarship assistance from the football officials who have worked their games.  For over 35 years our association has been presenting at least one $500 award each year for a worthy graduating senior to use towards his college education.  The athletes need to submit a short application to be considered. The criteria for the scholarship are straightforward.  The student needs to be a senior who played football during his senior year at one of the schools that our association services.  It is not necessary that they be one of the star players on the team.  Rather, we look to financial need, leadership as evidenced by participation in sports or community service, sportsmanship and well rounded academic performance. The completed applications, along with any letters of recommendation, must be received at the street or e-mail address shown above by April 9, 2018. April 15, 2018 Yakima Federal Savings and Loan "Award for Academic Excellence"
Yakima Federal Savings and Loan “Award for Academic Excellence” has been established for the purpose of assisting deserving young men and women graduating from a high school in the areas served by our Association. It is for those graduates who are accepted by and enrolled in an accredited college, university, or a community college during this year’s fall semester. The Selection Committee, whose decision will be final, will grant several awards of $2,000 each.
The following statement summarizes the selection criteria: “In awarding grants the committee shall select students who have demonstrated their worthiness by their work in school and have shown to the committee’s satisfaction that they are persons of high moral character, are industrious, ambitious and hardworking students having a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5.” Internet and Home School applicants are not eligible for this Award.
Give your completed application to Mr. Jelinek in the RHS Career Center (Rm. 1221) by April 15.  He will complete and sign the bottom portion of the application and will submit to Yakima Federal for you by May 1st.

April 16, 2018 The Links Inc Scholarship Essay Contest

April 20, 2018 Merle Kirkley Merit Scholarship Award
The Merle Kirkley Merit Scholarship Award is a competitive merit-based scholarship program designed to provide financial support for Washington State high school students planning to obtain a post-secondary education. April 30, 2018 Paul Mitchell School Scholarship Award

May 4th, 2018 Building Industry Association of Washington Scholarship  
There is an additional $10,000 for scholarships designated for technical and trade students. The BIAW continues to recognize education as the very core of their industry and the scholarship program supports those students that have selected home building as their life's work.
