This essay I am going to write is about the importance of accountability in the army, and as to how it affect the units mission. First off by definition "Accountability is important in the military because soldiers are often times required to perform extremely challenging duties and services. Without accountability, a soldier cannot be expected to meet these high demands and expectations". Being accountable means being in the right place at the right time, being in the proper duty uniform, being dependable and always arriving to work on time, appointments on time and most importantly doing the right thing at the right time and all the time. One of the most important parts about being accountable is so that you do not miss any important…show more content…

you must be aware of your actions and always be vigilant and never to lose self accountability. Once you have gained self accountability, you can then start to worry about other people if the task requires it. Accountability does not only happen on the week days but also during your personal time because a lot of what you do or people see you do on your personal time can affect how people view and see you on work time. Also it can also affect how you feel about yourself or how other people feel about you. The next topic i am going to cover is the importance of being accountable as a Non-Commissioned Officer. This is really important because soldiers will always be coming to you for advice, guidance and almost everything they can not do alone. NCO's are the backbone of the military, they relay information from the top of the channels all the way to the bottom. The NCO mindset comes from a lot of honest hard work and working your way up from the bottom, which is why the NCO’s should know most about accountability, and also because they need to have accountability of not only themselves but that of others that are under them. If one domino falls then most of the time they will all fall. so in other words if one person messes up then it could mess up everyone. In some missions this is very bad because if you are in Afghanistan or Iraq then you need to have accountability so that everyone gets home safe and unharmed. This is my 2500 word essay about responsibility and keeping accountability of my personal equiptment. Responsibility the state or fact of being accountable or to blame for something. Personal responsibility is demonstrating your follow-through initiative and a personal commitment to being accountable to your personal belongings. Being responsible in the US Army has got to be of the utmost importance in my opinion. Being unrespossible of your property can lead to a secrurity breach or worse. Soldiers must be and act responsibly in every situation they may find themselves in, whether it’s in or out of uniform. Forgetting my wallet at work is a good example of not being resposible of my personal belongings.

My wallet is a very important part of being in the military. If i forget my wallet somewhere were people can get it. Its basically like handing my life over to them. It has badges and such to get into secure compounds. It has my bank cards which they could then get into my finances, a call roster which has over 70 names and number to which would lead to people being prank called and so on and so forth. My wallet also has my driver license so people can know my name and where i live. There are thing people dont think about when they have there wallet on them but when they lose, forget, or leave it somewhere it can cause mayhem inside your company to make sure there isent a security breach.

Being a well maintained soldier is your duty and responsibility to yourself, your crew, your platoon, your company, and your unit. Dangers can come if you are not responsible of your things. If there was a security breach into a secret building could be catastrophic to the security of the united states. If you do forget your wallet or equiptment you should tell someone as soon as possible so you dont put your crew or anyone in danger. As a junior enlisted soldier you have very minimal responsibility such as taking care of yourself and your equiptment such as all items issued to him weather it be a weapon, NVG’s, clothes, a vehicle, or some TA-50. If you dont take care of these items you can be subjected to an article 15 under UCMJ law. The NCO’s responsibility is to make sure that the soldier is accountable for the items and has eyes on these items when needed, so that he can report it to his higher command. Accountability also includes the most important piece of equipment the soldier him or herself. Anything can and will happen especially in combat, that’s why the team member should make sure that the team or squad leader know where the soldier and his or her equipment is at all times.

The Army spends a lot of money on equipment and belongings for the soldiers, so the Army expects to know where its equipment is. No matter what someone is always responsible for equipment in the Army. It goes to the highest officer to the lowest enlisted personal in the chain of command and back up again. Responsibility and accountability are two of the main factors in being a successful soldier in today’s Army. There are many good examples of responsibility in a normal workday. Soldiers need to be responsible for their actions. It is very important to be responsible when working in the aviation field of the United States army.

If you damage or find something damaged or wrong with the aircraft such as a drive shaft or push pull tube. being responsible would mean you would tell someone right away or write it up in the aircraft maintainance book. which shows each and everything that is wrong with the aircraft. which then the maintainers would come in the next day and fix whatever needed to be fixed on that aircraft. Being responsible as a maintainer would include doing maintainance by the book. Replacing what needs to be replaced in such a manner that the crew flying on that aircraft shouldnt have to worry about the maintainance after it is done.
